Pea and Lovage Soup



Here’s a recipe for pea and lovage soup, I know Wilma Irvine has some in her garden she would like to use.


Serves 4-6


50 ml olive oil

1 medium onion chopped

1 clove garlic chopped

3 medium potatoes sliced

1 cup frozen peas about 150 grms

2 handfuls lovage leaves (not stalks)

2 vegetable stock cubes


Sour cream (optional)

Salt and pepper


Warm the oil in a pan with a splash of cold water and sweat the onion, garlic and potato, stirring so as not to burn the potato.

Cook this until the potato is soft, a good 10 minutes, and then cover with water.

Add the peas, stock cubes and the lovage and gently bring to the boil.

Let it simmer for 15 minutes before blending with a hand blender or bit by bit in a food processor.

Season to taste.

This soup is often served chilled but can be served straight away. I like a dollop of soured cream on mine just to liven it up a bit.
